Weekend barbecue

Saturday and Sunday, we had a barbecue, it was great, I have pictures, but I can’t be bothered to upload them. I done the cooking as usual, I don’t mind, though 2 days straight is a little too much for me. Weather has been nice, so we took advantage of it why we could, but now it’s started to go back to it’s usual self :(.

Haven’t had a lot of time to do much online, I really need to get back to working on the project that me and Ross are doing together for the challenge. I feel that it will be done in time, might have to cut a couple of the more awkward features out though, not sure yet.

Zelnen from iFusion interviewed me over the weekend, have a read of it here…

FireBug

Whoa, this is awesome for developers, just came across it…

Nobody likes to see errors in their web pages, but with FireBug you won’t mind as much. FireBug adds a little icon to the Firefox status bar which tells you if your page is busted. Open up the FireBug panel and you’re looking at the errors that occurred in that page, and only that page. No more digging through the muddy pile of errors in the JavaScript Console window.

Check it out: http://www.joehewitt.com/software/firebug/

Ajax-Development-Gotchas

For those that use the AJAX technology, you may be interested in this compiled list of “Gotchas” that was started by Alex Bothsworth.

I myself haven’t done a great deal of AJAX stuff, I haven’t really had a big need for it.

Edit: Here is the link…

Sport sport sport

It’s been a weekend of sport, first football, then tennis, and finally darts.

England were playing Paraguay Saturday, I didn’t really enjoy the match to be honest, found it a little boring especially the second half, but at least we won (1 - 0), hopefully the next match will be better.

I watched the French Open Tennis final today between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, was very dissapointed that Roger lost, I was really hoping for him to beat Rafael. Roger got off to a blistering start by taking the first set 6 - 1, Roger seemed to focus in on the backhand of Rafael which worked, but then everything went downhill after winning the first set. Rafael was serving for the match at 5 - 4 in the 4th set, but Roger broke back, I was getting excited, maybe it go to 5 sets but it went to a tie break with Rafael winning it and taking the match. It’s now the start of the grass court season I think, I wonder how well Rafael will do on grass, last year he didn’t do very well.

Now and again I kept flicking it over to the UK Open Darts Championship, it’s a FA style event where anyone can enter no matter what your ranking is. I was backing Raymond Van Barneveld to win the event, but when they done the draw for the quarter finals, he got Phil Taylor. It was a great match, shame it wasn’t the final. Raymond won it 11 - 10 with a 97 checkout, he really shouldn’t have won, Phil had 3 darts at a double. Raymond then went on to win the event 13 - 7, beating Bates in the final.

10.5 Apocalypse

Just been watching part 2 of 2 on Sky One, I watched part 1 yesterday, and I must say, it’s not that good to be honest. It seems that Sky One like to show a lot of mini series about natural disasters (Supernova; that was good though, a couple of others which I can’t recall, someone remind me what they were).

w00t, it’s the weekend

W00t, it’s the weekend, time for relaxing and maybe filling up the fridge with alcoholic beverage’s ready for the game on Saturday (England are playing). I’m not a big football lover, but it’s a good time to drink ;).

I’m absolutely knackered, haven’t long finished work, been a hard day, nice to sit down and do nothing.

I’m currently watching the UK Open Darts Championship on Sky, but it’s boring, none of the top players are playing yet (Raymond, Phil, Ronnie, Colin etc). I was going to watch the French Open highlights, but while I was carrying something at work which I couldn’t put down, the results were given out on the radio, grrrrrrr, I hate it when that happens, was looking forward to watching it.

Sooooo tired

Work is going well, but it’s very tiring. I had to help feed the wires for the CCTV cameras, that was kinda of fun, made a change to what I usually do which was good. I’m doing that again tomorrow I think.

I got home around 5:30 today, and had to shoot out again to help with some u13 suffolk badminton squad selection. Basically we see who is good enough to make it into the team, there are a few good players, a couple of them wanted me to join in to help them win, I really didn’t want to, my legs and feet were aching, I just didn’t have it in me to do much other than coach. I decided to take part in the end though, but am really suffering now, lol. I have to walk to and from work every day, which isn’t too bad usually, the weather has been great this week.

Am now just catching up on todays Tennis, i’m hoping for a Federer vs Nadal final for Sunday, but Federer winning :p

Random pictures

Yesterday on the way to work and on the way home from work I took some random pictures with my cheap digital camera.

These first ones are of the beach. Lowestoft pwns all when it comes to having the cleanest beach.

The one above was taken from inside the building where I work.

These pictures are ones I took on my way home…

Someone has gone England flag mad. Every window had a flag in it, and on the wall there were flags, same for the car as well.

Petrol prices, no idea why I took this, lol.

Finally the road I live on :p

Coding Challenge

Roughly 2 weeks ago, a challenge was issued against the coding moderators (me and Ross) at ProBoards, We decided to make it different so it could be members vs members vs moderators. Small teams of 2 - 4 people have roughly 2 months to create a code which must be admin controlled and can only be coded in Javascript, for more details have a read of the thread here.

What does me and Ross have up our sleaves?

Something good, that’s for sure. We are well ahead, so we are taking a small break from working on the project, we are about half way, maybe slightly under, but the main constructor is all done basically. The project relies on the main constructor to load additional constructors automatically by checking for specific GET variable values.

Half way through the challenge, all teams are required to send a feature list and previews of their project. Feature lists will be left out if 2+ teams are working on a very similar code to try and prevent copying.

Do I think we will win? Hmmm, am not sure really, because even some of the average coders can produce some very cool hacks, so it’s very open. Win or lose, there are going to be some cool hack that go into the code database :D
