FPS Games For The PS3

Right now I am really into First Person Shooting games, and am extremely addicted to Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare. Last month I thought I would buy another FPS game, which was Medal of Honour: Airborne. Compared to Call of Duty, it really sucked, just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Today I thought I would buy Unreal Tournament 3, it had good reviews, so I was expecting something amazing. I played it for about 2 hours, though I didn’t enjoy it as much as Call of Duty.

So yeah, looks like that’s another game which I will never play, lol. It’s going to be a while before anything can match Call of Duty, maybe BattleField Bad Company can.

Sniffing PS3

Recently I have been trying to sniff the PS3. No, it’s not some new fetish, I am sniffing the packets. Problem is, I never get anything from the PS3, I have tried it with the browser, and with an online game, still nothing. I use Wireshark, and it works fine, but for some reason I just can’t capture anything from the PS3.

Last night I tried to get the PS3 to share my laptop connection (Internet Connection Sharing), but no joy. I have read tons of articles on how to do it, but nothing will work.

What’s my reason for capturing the PS3?

I do have a good reason for doing it, though don’t wish to share why, or more specifically what I am trying to capture, as it will be a new project for me to allow the gaming community to use.

Has anyone else got any ideas? I have heard about something called a “CrossOver Cable”, but haven’t looked into that yet.

My setup is:

BT Home Hub
WLAN Card for laptop

So everything is wireless, PS3 connects to the hub, and the laptop connects to the hub via WLAN card. Some how I need to make the PS3 connect to my laptop so I can capture all the data.

Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare Patch

Since I bought COD4:MW, I have played it none stop, it is a highly addictive multiplayer game. Up until 2 days ago, there were problems for the PS3. Sometimes it would take a long time to get in to a game. IW (Infinity Ward - Creators of the game) has been working on a patch which was released Friday, and I must say, getting into a game is a lot quicker. Not only that, EU can now play against other PS3 players.

What I am looking forward to the most, is extra kill cams, new maps, and a few bug fixes. Have a read of this post for information…

Awesome news if you are a COD fan.

Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare

I bought this game a few days ago for my PS3, it’s bloody brilliant. Little disappointed with the single player being rather short, though it was fun. 99% of my time is spent playing online (multi-player) in various game modes (Free For All, Team Deathmatch etc). This is the first time I have ever played a game online against other people.

I won’t give you a review, Eternity from ProVision, and IGN sums it all up…

IGN - Game Review

I am addicted to it. I have played it non-stop since I got it. I never thought I would play a FPS that would beat Goldeneye on the N64, now I have.

I seriously recommend this game.

Wii - Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

I bought this game Monday, and all I can say it is extremely tiring. I don’t really like it, as soon as I started playing it, I just wasn’t happy with it. I tried for ages on some events, but it just got really boring, and my arms felt like they were about to drop off.

There is a good side to it, and that is multi-player. I roped my sister into having a go, and she just loves it. It’s pretty fun when you are playing against others, but playing the game on your own just isn’t fun.

If you are into sweating while playing your games, then get it.

Playstation 3 - VT3 + FPS

So about a month or so ago, I brought myself a Playstation 3 which came bundled with Virtua Tennis 3. I did a lot of reading up about the PS3, most of it was bad, a lot of people were recommending the Xbox 360. I decided I would go with the PS3, considering I really enjoyed the PS2.

So now a month later; I still only have Virtua Tennis 3, I wanted to get full use out of that game, though now I have got extremely bored of it, as I spent most of my time diving around the court trying to reach the ball. I look forward to seeing if the game Top Spin (not out yet?) does better.

I now am trying to decide on what game to buy next. I really want Unreal Tournament III, but that doesn’t look like it will get released here until March :( . Another game I have been reading up on is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (think it’s called that), which looks great. I have always liked first person shooters since I played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on the N64. I had Red Faction for the PS2 which was just awesome, I loved that way you could damage the environment around you, something I haven’t read about for any of the PS3 FPS games.

Any recommendations?

DS Lite

Have been thinking of getting a DS Lite, though am not sure if it looks that good.

What’s your opinion on it? Is it better than the PSP?

Wii

At the weekend I treated myself to a Nintendo Wii. I actually sent my sister to pick one up for me, a lot of shops were sold out of Wii’s but had plenty of PS3’s. I thought about getting something else, maybe a 360, but after reading reviews, watching videos and hearing other people’s opinions, my mind was made up.

So I’ve been playing on it since Saturday. It comes with Wii Sports (Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf, and Boxing), Nunchuk, and a Wii Remote. I decided I would try and get another Wii Remote and Nunchuk, but it was impossible, everywhere was sold out. I came across something called “Wii Play”, which came with a Wii Remote (basically you are paying for that), so that will do for the moment.

Along with that I bought “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess”, which I have only just started to play. So far I like it, though my interest is more in Wii Sports right now, mainly Tennis, Bowling and sometimes a little bit of Baseball.

But yeah, am definitely happy with it, just wish there was a bigger selection of sport games. I am hoping a decent Tennis game will be coming out soon, have heard about one called “Tennis Masters”, not sure if that is a rumour or an actual release for the Wii, I hope so.

Anyone recommend some games they have played?
